Once again, terrific article. I am actually trying to decide on one saxophone to focus on! I am learning new instruments- Dobro and Scottish Smallpipes but struggle with which saxophone to focus on and what exactly to zero in on in my playing. Improvisation is a given.
Dave Liebman told me I should just play one and it should be baritone. It’s not the worst plan to just play one. I think everyone has a different path. I was wondering tonight if I should just play baritone and soprano and leave out the alto and tenor. I would love to see and hear you play these other non-saxophone instruments. The other conversation to have would be — what new dimensions do these other non-saxophone instruments bring to your saxophone playing? An enhanced perspective? There must be an influence of some sort I would imagine?!?
